Florence and The Machines CD covers

Lungs" spawned several singles. The first, "Kiss with a Fist", was released well before the final recording of the album, on June 9, 2008. It charted at #51 on the UK Singles Chart. "Dog Days Are Over", the second single, was released on December 1, 2008 and reached #89 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was used in an advertisement for programming on RTÉ, an episode of BAFTA-winning teen drama Skins and the movie Jennifer's Body.
As a precursor to the album's July 2009 release, "
Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" was released as the album's third single on June 22, 2009. It received a considerably greater amount of airplay in comparison to the two earlier singles, and subsequently debuted at #12 on the UK Singles Chart.
Two other tracks from the album have charted. "
You've Got the Love" was released after "Dog Days", available as a digital download. It peaked at #158 on the UK Singles Chart in early 2009, but re-entered the chart in mid-2009 at a new peak of #68. The song "Cosmic Love" has had considerable success in Ireland. Before the album's release, the song rocketed up the Irish iTunes chart to number 2 and debut at 3 on the Irish Singles Chart, higher than the actual single "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)", as a result of its use in an advertisement for The O2, Dublin.
"
Drumming Song" was the album's fourth single. It was released on September 7 2009.

"You've Got the Love" was the fifth single of the album.

You've Got the Love" is the third single released by the band
Florence and the Machine, the band consists of Florence Welch (the lead singer) and the Machine (the band), from their 2009 Mercury Prize-nominated debut album Lungs. It was first released on December 1, 2008 as the b-side of their second single "Dog Days Are Over". It was then later released as a digital download only single on January 5, 2009 in the United Kingdom only, after the mass praise it received during the release of "Dog Days Are Over". It is a cover version of the song "You Got the Love" by The Source featuring Candi Staton with a slightly changed name. After being released well before Lungs was finally recorded and released, it was later featured on the album as its bonus track.

CD Digipack ideas

A digipak is a panented style of CD or DVD packaging. It is a trademark of AGI Media, who have licenced the design to manufacturers. It is often used for albums and singles all varieing in all diffrent kinds of music, games and DVDs. The plastic case is less vanurable to cracking than a jewel case. The disk tray inside the package the "teeth" of the hub that is used to secure the dick in place is still rather brittle; and is prone to cracking if the ase gets crushed in any way. Digipak- style cases grew in popularity among record lables and rescording artists in the earlie 2000s.

1.My First idea-->

This is one of my cd cover ideas. For this idea i have decided to use sweets for all the diffrent covers. I thought of using dirrent sweets because they are all really brightly coloured and they look mouthwatering on paper. For the front cover on this idea i thought about using diffrent coloured smarties on either a white or black background, i would like to put all the diffrent coloured smarties in the shape of a love heart. I will put the songs name on this, i would like to put Youve Got The... on the top above the heart and...Love underneath it using one of the smarties for the o. I also liked the idea of golden stars going up one side of the front cover. I have chosen all these iseas because i feel that they are sutle but fun. By using the idea of sweets i can really use a wide range of colour contrasts so that it is eye catching. For the inner left panel i had the idea of using all diffrent kinds of sweets to create a butterfly. I think this idea would be really hard tho so i will start to progress my ideas further. For the back of this CD case i had idea by using gummy bears to create a story. I have seen a few adverts where i got that idea of using sweets to tell a story by moving about. I have added these videos below. Finally for the inside behind the CD i have decided to use love hearts sweets for the whole picture, i think this will enhance the title of Youve Got The Love; as the love hearts sweets have all diffrent sayings on.

Here are pictures of smarties. All images below are found from google images.

The above picture is what i would like to do for the front cover. I also like the next picture too. I will experiment and then do a tally chart and ask about 30 people which one they prefer.

These pictures of butterflys are ideas for the inner left panel.

This image of sweets is a rough idea of what i would like to do for inside.

Sweet Commercials--> all found from youtube.

This is the gummy bear advert that i saw on TV.

This is the skittles - taste the rainbow advert.

This is the M&MS christmas commercial.

2.My second idea-->

In this idea i decided to use make-up for the theme. For the front cover i used eye liner, nail varnish and blusher powder to write the title i would like to put a background picture if i use this for my final product; so i will develop my ideas further if i decide to use this. For the back i wanted to create quite a mysterious picture of a dark room with a bed underneath a window; i wanted to put silky black sheets on the bed and then fill it with flowers, then either have a girl ( who would look similar to Florence) laying in the middle, or just keep the flowers on it. I think this would work really well as Florence likes to use a variety of approaches on her CD covers. For the inside i would like to use make-up again and get about 3 different people to wear bright red lipstick and kiss the paper. I really liked this idea as i saw it in a magazine a while ago and thought it looked effective. Finally for the inner left panel i really wanted to create a moodboard of lots of different images. I have done this in other projects in college and think it would be great for enhancing the whole mood of the CD cover. I would add images such as: shoes, make-up, nail varnish, animals, music notes, guitars, people, colours, sweets etc. See below for inspiration.

3. My final Idea-->

For my final idea i thought i would make each idea really different so i cover every aspect of what i could do. This idea is a bit random. For the front cover i have put music notes along the top and bottom of the cover, written the title in rainbow colours and added flowers below. I have also added a little bumblebee on the top right corner. This gives it a summery bright feel. For the back i have got a girl (again who looks similar to Florence) wearing a long cloak with flowers coming down each side and along the bottom, she is pointing to the sun. I really liked this idea because it is different and something i think Florence and The machine would do. for the inside i kept it plain and simple by just having a rainbow across, i would play with different background colours and see what fits better as i wouldn't keep it white. Finally for the back i decided to use different colour balloon's, then in photoshop i would add the letters L,O,V,E to each balloon. I have also got clouds in the background so it continues to show the thought of summer and summer love. Finally i have added the title of the single at the bottom, i have done this in a curly type of text as i feel this fits the whole theme.

Overall im not sure what idea i will use. I think probably i will use a mix of each idea or progress the ideas i have further.

Animatic

This is our animatic video that we shot, processed and edited on the apple mac then added the song. I think we did well in shooting this, as we did it pretty fast but then we had some troubles editing it using the mac as none of us had much experience in using it beforehand. It also took us a while to add the song to final cut pro as there where some technical difficulties. Overall i think we tackled the problems and did it as well as we could. The only thing we could of done was, at the end after we finished editing we should of gone over each shot carefully to make sure the music or bass came in at exactly the right point as the picture changed, but apart from this i think we did well.

First Ideas and Thoughts

Our idea for the music video is as follows:

It begins when a woman walks out of her front door, either showing the block of flats in which she lives, before or after she leaves, so that the viewer can establish her location. The second part would be of her entering her car and applying her makeup rapidly in the car mirror as she is in a rush. She then turns on the radio, with the song is playing throughout her journey to a car park. After the woman has parked, she walks around the corner, and passes a building site, where there is another radio, which continues to play the song as she walks past it. She then arrives at work and gazes upon a huge pile of paperwork on her desk, at this point, we see how stressed she really is. She puts her iPod on and the song plays again. At this point, we want to use a time lapse shot to show the time go by on the clock. She then leaves work feeling down and depressed and drives back home. As she approaches her flat, all her friends start coming over one by one, and they all ring the buzzer to come in. They all begin to get ready together, and start by doing each others hair and make-up and deciding what to wear. Finally, We see that they are then they are in brighton ready for a great night out, where we see that she has become much happier.

This is some of my first ideas that i created in powerpoint.

Island Records- Official You've Got The Love Video

As we were composing our video, Island Records released a music video for Florence and The Machine- You've got The Love. Above is the official video. We were unable to predict the untimely release of this music video.

This video is extremely different to how I thought of portraying it. The song can depict many different meanings. The meaning that I thought of while I was listening to this song was, that a person, male or female is having a hard and stressful day, either at work or just having a generally mediocre day. The character is feeling rather low and down at the beginning of the song. As the song progresses, and the tempo increases and lyrics become 'You've Got The Love', I envision that the person is then surrounded with an atmosphere that echoes love and friendship. Then towards the end of the song, the character is conferring with their friends (either on a night out or just having fun). Overall i believe that the song shows progression that those who have bad days, should know that they are surrounded with love.

Contacting Island Record Company

In order to complete your music video, we have had to abide by all Island Records copyright laws, so in order to still achieve our plans of using a Florence and The Machine record. Therefore we sent and email to the record company to ask permission to use "you've got the love".

Here is a print screen of the email.

Copyright are important beacuse they have laws that are set-up to promote the creation of new things and ideas. If the laws didn't exist then some people may not be willing to share their ideas with others and we would then have fewer new innovations.Copyright is needed so people don't steal other peoples work, and it is protected.

Mise-en-scene

Setting/Location:

Starts- The start of the music will be of a youngish good looking girl, dressed smart for work coming out of her flat. We want to use this as a first establishing shot to set the scene, this will show her Independence and motivation to get to work despite her own personal problems. The building will be working class flats as this could appear to all types of audiences. Also some people could easily relate to the character. We will use either are own house or flats or a friends for this.

We want to use some kind of flats like this or someones home such as there pictures.

Both from google images

Second Scene- The Girl gets into her car and drives along the road to work. This will be a point of view shot to show exactly where she is going, so the audience can track her journey. She also turns on the car radio and the song continues through that while she drives to her destination. After her journey to work, she then Parks her car, gets out and walks the street to work. The street we will use will be a normal back ally leading into a town center, then there will be a building site which she walks past with the music playing out of the building site radio. The building site will be typical, such as work being done to the road, developing a building more or drain work, anything we can find available to fit our criteria.

All images from Google.

This is something like the building site we will try and find. This one is perfect as people can certainly see what it is. The next picture will be similar to our shot of the girl Turing on the radio in her car. The final picture will be similar to the car we will use.

Middle-After this the character then walks into work and gets comfortable at her desk, only to see a pile of paperwork, then her manager comes in an puts a load more paper work onto her desk. We are going to try and create an office type working space within our limits of college, home or any space we can get hold of. We will try and get hold of some desks, computers, chairs, anything that stages a business type office space. We choose to use a typical office layout so again the audience can relate to the space and to make it seem more realistic and believable to the viewers. Also so that the audience can see exactly what we want to portrait and they know exactly that it is a work space.

Just like the first picture is what we want to create while the girl is at work she gets piles of work put on her desk, to show stress. The second picture is use full as it can help us see how to create a typical working space.

Fourth Scene- After leaving work, she goes back into her car and drives home. she stumbles into her flat after the hard boring day at work, She drops her stuff and begins to get ready for a night on the town, she puts the music on as she does her hair and makeup in the mirror. During this time a buzzer go off at let times to show more and more friends arriving, to keep her company an cheer her up from her hard day. The building will be the same as the first establishing shot, so already thew viewers know she at her home and the video is kept consistent. We will only use one room of the flat, (lounge), the lounge we are going to use has all white rooms, this will being out the contrast and brighten the colours in the room. There is 2 white leather sofas opposite each other table in the middle, the window is situated above the sofa u see as u walk in, then there is a CD player on the left as she walks into the room, there is a TV on the opposite side to the CD player. Opposite the window there is a canvas painted picture of a sunset ( this is blue, orange and yellow). Next to the TV there is a big mirror, this will be the use for when she gets ready. We are going to use all there things as they are all typical homely objects, this will make it seem more realistic, and the audience will be again able to recognise that its a lounge. We are going to film a friends flat and lounge.

The first image is perfect for how we want our lounge to look. We will do our best to make it similar of if not homely and real. The second picture is just a rough idea of the girl getting ready with her friends in front of the mirror.

End- All the girls are on the street of Brighton, heading towards the pier for a wild night out, after a busy day. We will use a group of friends plus our main girl actress all dressed up, as they would in real life. To film, we will simply to following them as they start there night. Most of it will be not be staged, and we will track them as if they where on a actual girls night out. In our shots we will be using Brighton Pier, the beach, the promenade and Brighton's surroundings; as we find them.

Costume & Make-up:

First Scene, the actress will be dressed smartly as she is going to work. Her hair tied up of her face, smart shirt and a pencil skirt, Small black pumps or heals, glasses. Her make-up will be minimal and natural. We will use our own smart cloths for this, as we then don't need to buy it especially.

Second Scene the actress will be exactly the same as she was in the first scene.

Middle Scene again the actress will be dressed and have the same make-up as above.

Forth Scene, at the beginning she will be dressed the same as she is coming back from work. Then she begins to get ready. Here is where is will wear a more dressy top and jeans or a dress perhaps and her make-up will be exaggerated and bold. We will use one of our own tops, jeans and make-up for this.

End Scene, there will be a few girls who are all dressed up for a girls night out. They will have lots of make-up and wearing dresses or jeans and a top. Again we will use our own cloths and make-up that we can find.

Lighting:

During the first and second scene we will use natural light from the sun. we dont need artificial light for those scenes because both scenes are outside, except the bit where she is in her car, then we can use the light that's comes from the windows. The Middle Scene we will use both artificial and natural light as its an office type working space. We can use the lights and use natural light that comes in from the windows. Forth Scene we will use again both natural and artificial lighting, first natural as she drives home then the lights in the lounge to show her getting ready; for this we can also use other artificial lighting such as lamps. Finally for the end we can use again the natural nightime lighting and also use the artificial lighting for brighton pier.

Colour:

For most of our video we will use just normal colours. In the begging as she is going to work we will use duller colours to show that her work is boring and then as she begings to get ready things will brighten up, such as her clothes and the lighting in the room; this will emphasise that she is having fun.
